Opinion: FreeTV Improvement

Uzyinka
Free TV is a broadcasting platform that is offering to Nigerians Free-to-Air (FTA) Channels with an electronic programme guide (EPG).

FreeTV covers the existing local, national, and selected international Free-to-Air channels. Delivering Nigerian digital incentive channels with improved signal reception and picture quality via Set-top boxes. You only pay #1,500 every year to continue to enjoy free TV.
FreeTV initially started with terrestrial T2MI decoder (Using Antenna) only, which limit their coverage to like six states for years after its launch. Then switch to satellite (Using Dish) only Set-top boxes (decoder) which is very good as it now covers the whole country and remote areas that lack signal with terrestrial decoders but the best decoder they should adopt is Combo decoders(which can use both Antenna and Dish). This will be better because customers can choose whether to use an antenna or dish. Some people may not have the opportunity of installing dishes in their shops or offices which will make them prefer the use of antennas.
FreeTV if properly managed and improved is capable of generating revenue because of the number of people that will be using it. Apart from the yearly subscription, a lot of revenue can be generated through advertisement.

Employment creation by employing more staff within the FreeTV and others can be agents, installers etc.

FreeTV can be used to achieve a better society by providing proper orientation, information to Nigerians through its channels.

Channels FreeTV is lacking currently and required by Nigerians.
1.   Religion channels that should be inculcating morals in Nigerians, not the ones owned by individuals that want to pull people to their groups.

2.   Children channels is also lacking in FreeTV which still makes most parents go for pay-TV on a monthly basis even though is not convenient for them. These channels if available on FreeTV can be used to inculcate morals in children and make growing up fun for them.

3.   Entrepreneur channels that promote and encourage youths to become entrepreneurs. This channel can show programs like How to set-up or start, management of different kinds of businesses and success stories of people.

4.   Major Nigerian languages channels like Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo should be added to FreeTV to promote and preserve our culture and heritage. Some Nigerians that only understand these languages will be happy to have such channels.

5.   Dedicated movies channels like Nollywood, Hollywood, Bollywood etc
