The United Kingdom (UK) has updated its travel requirements for those wishing to enter the country. The United Kingdom announced on Monday 4 September that Nigerians and other nationals, excluding British and Irish nationals, wishing to travel to the UK must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). The new regulations will go into effect from November 15, 2023, and apply to everyone, including children.
The new travel regulations mean all visa applicants wishing to travel to the UK will require an Electronic Travel Authorization Card (ETA) prior to entry or transit. The UK Home Office said travel authorization is required for people who were previously eligible to visit the UK without a visa and who are not yet legally resident in the UK. The ETA also lists visitors under 6 months, businessmen, tourists, and those visiting family and friends. Applicants must apply online before booking travel to the UK. Once granted, it is valid for multiple trips for two years or until the passport you applied for expires. According to the Home Office, ETAs are digitally linked to travelers' passports, meaning travelers with valid visas may not be able to board without a valid ETA.
In a statement, the UK office said: "Travel regulations in the UK are changing. With the exception of UK and Irish nationals, everyone, including children, will soon need a permit before traveling to or through the UK. Masu. “This means that if you were previously eligible to visit the UK without a visa and are not yet legally resident in the UK, you will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). your stay must be shorter than six months and could include tourism or visiting family and friends, transit, business, and short-term study. “It is not necessary to provide a paper copy, but it is useful to have a confirmation email for your records while the ETA allows you to travel to the UK. You must go through passport control at the border to enter the country: "Please present the same passport you used to apply for your ETA and ensure that your passport is valid for the whole of your stay."
