Airtel Africa is teaming up with SpaceX's Starlink to launch a game-changing direct-to-cell service across 14 African markets, including Nigeria, starting 2026. This partnership will enable Airtel's 174 million subscribers to stay connected in remote areas where traditional networks can't reach.

Key Highlights:

- Expanded Coverage: The service will initially support text messaging and limited data access for select applications.

- Next-Gen Technology: Future upgrades will offer high-speed broadband with data speeds up to 20 times faster.

- Rural Focus: Targets underserved communities, bridging Africa's digital divide.

- Regulatory Approval: Rollout subject to approval in each country.

Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar says this collaboration sets a "new standard for service availability" across their markets. Starlink's Vice President of Sales, Stephanie Bednarek, adds that this will keep Africans connected in remote areas.
